This is my new 5-string bass – an Ibanez BTB405-QMTK. The body is transparent black quilted maple, walnut, and basswood, and the neck is 5 pieces of walnut and maple. It’s heavy by my standards, but quite comfortable if you’re used to playing a Precision. The 35″ scale gives the strings extra tension for a tight sound, but it makes string bends a little harder, and the frets are even further apart than normal. Active 3-band EQ, though the pickups themselves are passive. Mid is sweepable, which is a real bonus. Neutrik locking jack socket. Satin chrome finished hardware. Monorail II bridge (individual bridge per string).
This is a nice warm sounding bass. The strings have the same spacing as a normal 4-string which is unusual for a 5-string. This means you can slap it like crazy without getting your fingers stuck!
Mmm… quilted maple… transparent black that looks like a grey/purple…
